Nose Aesthetics
(Rhinoplasty)
Nose Aesthetics (rhinoplasty) is a striking operation that has a direct impact on the aesthetic appearance of the face. It is a surgical procedure with generally high patient satisfaction in terms of its results. If the nasal septum (middle roof) is also intervened in order to open the airway, the operation is called septorhinoplasty. Two different results can be achieved with nose aesthetics (rhinoplasty) surgery;
1) By correcting the deformities in the external appearance of the nose, a nose with the most aesthetic proportions suitable for the face shape is obtained,
2) The airway is relieved by interfering with the obstructing bone and flesh (turbinate) tissues in the nose. Thus, both an aesthetic and functional treatment is achieved.
Two different techniques are used in the surgery: open and closed. Today, 95% open technique is used. In the open technique, the nose is entered through a 4 mm incision from the outside and the entire nasal skin is removed to make the tissues to be operated visible. The open technique gives much better results, especially in difficult noses.
Should I have Nose Aesthetics (Rhinoplasty)?
The answer to this question largely depends on you. While there are people who have a very large and misshapen nose and are extremely happy, there are also people who find the slightest tissue curvature a problem and have surgery. Both must be respected. If having surgery will increase your self-confidence and positively affect your participation in social life, your decision is right. However, even though you do not have a problem with your nose, if you are planning to have an operation to get rid of the criticism of the people around you, I recommend you to think twice. Changing the shape of a nose that does not bother you may cause greater disappointment for you. You should make your decision together with your specialist doctor.
What are the risks of Nose Aesthetics (Rhinoplasty) surgery?
The risks that all surgical operations carry are also present here. Anesthesia-related problems, infections, premature opening of the suture, numbness on the tip or back of the nose, and bad scar formation can be counted among these. Additionally, perforation in the nasal septum, discoloration of the skin on the back of the nose, and undesirable deformities may occur in later periods. Sometimes a second correction operation may be required, which is performed after one year at the earliest. A consent form explaining all these risks will be read to you before the surgery and your signature will be requested.

How long does the nose aesthetic (rhinoplasty) surgery and post-recovery process take?
The operation, which takes between 1 and 2.5 hours depending on the size of the planned operation, is performed under general anesthesia. When you leave the operation, there will be a plastic or metal mold (maybe a plaster cast) on your nose and tampons inside the nose. Nowadays, there are surgeons who do not insert any tampons or prefer to use silicone tampons that allow breathing. You can get up and walk around 2-3 hours after the surgery and eat after 5-6 hours. After rhinoplasty surgery, you will stay in the hospital for 1 night and be discharged. If your general condition is very good, you can be discharged on the same day. The tampons in your nose are removed after 1-2 days, and the mold on the back of your nose is removed after 5-7 days. Depending on your doctor's preference, a second mold may or may not be made. This means you can return to work 1 week or 10 days after the surgery. You may have swelling and bruises over your eyes and nose. To prevent this from happening, some plastics are given during the surgery and ice is applied in your room. The degree of swelling and bruising varies from person to person. It takes about 1 week and 10 days for these to regress enough to be covered with make-up. At the end of one month, edema decreases by 70-80%. Full recovery will only occur at the end of the first year. During this year, you may experience swelling (edema) in your nose, which increases in the morning and then disappears. There is usually no complaint of pain.
