Hair Transplant
Treatment
Baldness is a major source of stress for many people. Hair loss occurs in more than 60% of men and an average of 10% of women. Lack of scalp hair potentially increases the risk of skin actinic damage (sun damage) and cancer. However, hair transplant surgery is performed for purely aesthetic purposes today and is the most requested type of cosmetic surgery by men. A normal person has an average of 100,000 hairs on his head. It is normal to lose up to 50-100 hairs a day. Their place is filled with newly developing hair strands. People with blonde or red hair may have more hairs than this. It is part of the normal aging process that this number decreases by up to 30% from adolescence to middle age.
hair transplantation ; There are 65-85 follicular units per cm2 of the scalp. This corresponds to 230-290 hairs per cm2. In other words, there are 2-3 times as many hair strands as the number of follicles.
The cause of hair loss is usually a combination of three factors: genetic predisposition (positive family history), aging and hormonal changes. In addition to all these, many reasons such as traumas, infections, pregnancy and breastfeeding, cancer chemotherapy, use of certain medications, excessive stress, and excessive smoking can accelerate hair loss and lead to baldness or excessive hair thinning. Male pattern hair loss can also be seen in women. However, hair loss seen in women generally occurs as thinning and thinning covering the entire scalp.
Who can have hair transplantation?
Hair transplantation can be applied to anyone with sufficient amount of hair in the area of the head behind the ears (occipital and temporal regions). It is generally preferred after the age of 30 when hair loss slows down (there are also those who transplant at the age of 24-25). If it is performed at an early age, second and even third sessions are inevitable as hair loss will continue. In hair transplantation, the person's own hair is used and these do not fall out anymore due to their genetic programmes... Beard, moustache and eyebrow transplantation can also be performed using hair.

Which techniques are used for hair transplantation?
Punch grafts (10-15 hair), mini grafts (2-4 hair), micro grafts (1-2 hair), slit grafts (4-10 hair), strip grafts (30-40 hair) are the techniques applied. For more dramatic results, flap techniques, tissue inflation techniques and scalp reduction (surgical cutting and removal of the bald area) techniques can be used. There are many factors affecting the ideal result. The number of sessions, the colour and structure of the hair are some of them. Light coloured, wavy or curly hair provides better coverage than straight and dark coloured hair.
How does the process work?
After the operation, the scalp is closed with a bandage (there are also physicians who leave it open). The bandages are removed after one day. After 2-3 days, the transplantation area is washed gently. Blood and drug residues are removed. The hair transplant patient can return to work after 3-4 days. Since it may cause bleeding in the operation area and graft loss, excessive exertion, heavy exercise and sexual activity for 7-10 days are prohibited for 3 weeks. Hair loss is observed in the first 6 weeks. This is a temporary and expected condition. Afterwards, growth continues with new hair development. The final result is achieved after 6 months. Therefore, it would not be correct to decide whether a second session or revision is required before 6 months.
