Liposuction

What is (Fat Removal)?

The term liposuction describes a medical method that means the removal of excess fat accumulations from the body with the help of an aspirator to correct the contours and thinning in certain areas. Liposuction is not used in the treatment of obesity. It cannot replace proper diet and exercise. It is not effective in the treatment of cellulite. It has no therapeutic effect on sagging loose skin. It aims to achieve the ideal aesthetic appearance by correcting the contours on almost all body surfaces (abdomen, waist, back, legs, upper arm, double chin, hips, etc.).

Anyone who has excessive fat accumulation in certain parts of the body that does not respond to diet and exercise, has good skin elasticity and does not have a serious disease that prevents surgery can have this surgery. This surgery is called liposuction or fat removal.

How long does the healing process take after liposuction?

Fat removal can be performed under local anaesthesia in small areas, but in large areas it is usually performed under general anaesthesia. Depending on the application area, it may take between 30 minutes and 3-4 hours. At the end of the operation, the patient is advised to wear a tight corset and use it for 3-4 weeks. The cannula entry holes in the skin usually heal without leaving any scars. Swelling due to the operation gradually decreases and disappears for 3-4 months. Possible bruises on the skin will improve within 7-10 days. The final decision on the success of the operation can only be made after 3 months. Sometimes small revisions may be needed. This operation requires restriction of movement for about a week, again depending on the size and location of the application area. Then you can slowly start walking outside the house. Your doctor may recommend antibiotics and painkillers for the first week.

Things to know

Since fat stem cells are also removed with fat removal surgery, there is usually no or very little fat accumulation in stubborn areas. Nevertheless, it will be appropriate to pay attention to exercise and diet after surgery. Excessive weight gain in a very short time will lead to asymmetric fat deposits and the benefit obtained from the surgery will be lost. Upon your request and your doctor's approval, the fat obtained during the operation can be injected into the facial area or breast tissue. This procedure is called lipofilling.
